Creating things has always been a part of me. I'm not good at creating something out of the blue, but rather I do best when I combine ideas from lots of different places to come up with my own new creation.
I learned to knit and crochet at a young age of 10yrs old. My biggest accomplishment in high school was designing and crocheting a big table cloth for my mom that I entered into a competition. Did I follow a pattern? Well.....sort of...... I copied a small tablecloth that my Grandma had made, the kind that goes on top of those small round tables in the living room, and modified the design. I've made many things sense then, some good, some not so good, like when I decided to knit everyone in the family a winter hat. The problem was that I didn't want anyone to know what I was doing and so I couldn't measure their heads. Needless to say, they all turned out WAY to BIG and it's become the joke of the family since then.
My Grandma Dilly, who is 94 yrs old, tells people her favorite story of when she took care of me as a little girl. She had taken out color crayons and a coloring book and proceeded to show me "how to color". When she finished, I apparently looked up at her and said, "That's OK Grandma, I'll do it my way!" And I'm still doing things "my way" to this day!
That's what Lilybean is all about......creating hats, headband, flowers, butterflies etc. by putting together pieces of different designs and then making up my own "better design."
Recently my husband and I have become big fans of the Dave Ramsey Show. And on his radio show (http://www.daveramsey.com/radio/home/) he's always talking about how you need to find what your passionate about and then find a way to make money with it.
Well, one day a photographer friend of mine, Michelle Hunt, came to me and asked me if I could knit a cute hat she had seen on the Internet for a photo shoot. I said sure. And that's how Lilybean came about.
